Before the Industrial Revolution, mills were powered largely by water rather than coal and so Widcombe, with its steep gradients and abundant water sources, became a significant industrial centre with a number of different mills (not of the “dark satanic” variety but equally important). Our local expert Tony Coverdale will explain all of this as we go and more giving particular attention to the visible remnants of this fascinating industrial network. You will never look at Widcombe in quite the same way again.
The walk is 2.5 miles and it is estimated it will take a maximum of 3 hrs (including stops for information from Tony). Although the walk does not involve steep climbs it is fairly lengthy and is therefore, unfortunately, not suitable for people with significant mobility issues.
Places are limited to 25. This walk is open to WA members only.
