Start 10 am from Widcombe Parade.
Our Saturday morning ride will start with a gentle cycle along the canal tow path towards Claverton. Our destination is the Claverton Pumping station, a short distance from the towpath.
The pumping station is a marvel of nineteenth century engineering, having first operated in 1813, and this is an open day when, all being well, the pump should be up and running and we will be able to see it in action. Please note that there is a £10 charge on the door to visit when operating.
Anyone wishing to come for the ride but not visit the pumping station is welcome to relax by the canal or river while others look around.
We will return to Widcombe via the Two Tunnels and there will be an optional excursion to the Hope and Anchor at Midford for a refreshing drink and snacks before returning to the city. Total distance is 13.5 miles.
