The Council held an informal meeting with residents on Widcombe Hill and adjacent roads to unveil a proposal to introduce measures to slow the speed of traffic and to make the Hill safer for cyclists and pedestrians. The proposals, still at an early stage, include measures to alleviate the problems on the bend by Macaulay Buildings, and lower down Widcombe Hill, to create a number of pinch-points where priority will be given to traffic in one direction only. A dedicated cycle lane is proposed up-hill. The drawings are indicative and illustrate principles, not detailed design. Once the Council has reviewed the comments submitted, more detailed plans will be prepared on which formal public consultations will be held.  The funds available will be insufficient to carry out all of these proposals in one go, so the Council would welcome your views on the priorities that should be applied to the various components eg. should the priority be to slow traffic on the bend by Macaulay Buildings, or  to slow traffic on the lower stretches of Widcombe Hill.

The plans may be found below.

Comments on these three plans should be submitted to [email protected] for the attention of Neil Terry. Please submit any comments you wish to make by the end of September.
